David “Shorty” Varnedore, Sr., 70, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, passed on to Glory on Thursday, February 20, 2020, in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Saturday, February 22, 2020, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Allen Hulett and the Rev. Allen Arowood officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Varnedore was born September 18, 1949, in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late Willie Varnedore and the late Pauline Williams Pate. He had formerly worked for Elixir Industries, Lippert Components, Kelly Services, Bold Chemical, Claxton Poultry and A-1 Transport. He helped to build the Delco Remy battery plant as well. Mr. Shorty more recently operated a taxi service in Fitzgerald. He attended the Church of the Nazarene and will be greatly missed by his grand dog, Xena.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: David Varnedore, Jr. & Donna, Selina Cotterman & Bobby, James Varnedore & Julia, and Loretta Varnedore, all of Fitzgerald; the mother of his children: Rosetta Johns Giddens of Fitzgerald; grandchildren who will greatly miss their “Papa George”: Rosie Varnedore, Joseph Varnedore, Johnson Varnedore, Jacob Andaverde, Katie Easom, Jaylen Harper, Mikey Ray, Dalton Cotterman, Robert Cotterman, Jr., Riley Varnedore, Maddie Varnedore, Jasmine Luke & Evan; great-grandchildren: Ashton Ray, Peyton Bohannon, Adilynne Ray, Robert Cotterman, III, Damion Cotterman, Christopher Cotterman, Savannah Cotterman, Serenity Cotterman, Raylee Luke, and Angel Grace Fickle; and siblings: Daniel Varnedore & Diane of Texas, Rosalee Strickland & Lamont of Glenville, Carlene Boone of Tifton, Nathan Varnedore & Jackie of Irwinville, and Marie Woodard of Tifton. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Kayla Marie Varnedore, Dustin Randall Varnedore, and Jimmy L. “J.C.” Cotterman; two brothers: Lester Varnedore and Paul Varnedore; and a sister, Willie Mae Varnedore.
