Gary Raymond Cairns, 69, of Derry, NH passed away Saturday February 15, 2020 at the VA Medical Center in Manchester, NH, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born May 15, 1950 in Jackson Heights, NY and was the son of Betty (Eva Widdup) Cairns and the late John P. Cairns. He was raised and educated in Sea Cliff, NY and received his bachelor’s degree in Business from Johnson & Wales College. Gary was a resident of Derry for the past 18 years, after relocating from Latham, NY.
Mr. Cairns served his country in multiple ways firstly as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After his return he served in the Rhode Island Army National Guard as a member of 103rd Field Artillery Brigade.
The US Government in several capacities employed Gary: with the Comptroller of the Currency and then the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. He then became a Vice President of Key Bank and finished his career as a Bank Examiner with Chaston Associates of N. Andover, MA. He enjoyed traveling in England, the Caribbean, Africa and many other locations.
In addition to his mother of Glen Cove, NY, Gary is survived by his brother, S Robert Cairns of Sea Cliff, NY. Gary also is survived by his former wife, Ednor Larson with whom he served in the Rhode Island National Guard.
Also mourning Gary are his three closest friends, Cherie Senz, Ania and Bill Waller. Following cremation, Gary was interred with military honors at 10:30am on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.
