Elsie M. Grant - 101
Elsie was the daughter of William and Kate McClurg who were born in England and came to the United States in the early 1900’s. She was the wife of the late Harold Grant and mother of the late James Farrell of Sacramento, CA.
Elsie was a hardworking woman that worked multiple jobs to help support her family. She worked as an Assembler/Press Operator at John I. Paulding, Mfg. until its closure in 1983. She also worked part time jobs at Arlan’s Dept. Store and later at Cove Discount Center until it closed in 1998. At 80 years of age, Elsie was not finished, as she found a part time job in a thrift shop in the south end of New Bedford. She worked there as a cashier until it’s closing when Elsie was in her 90’s.
Elsie was an independent woman with a strong spirit who lived on her own until 101 years old at the Olympia Towers in New Bedford. She was a fun-loving woman who managed a few dance steps at her 100th birthday party in 2018 where she was surrounded by all of her loved ones.
Elsie is survived by her daughter Maureen Bardsley, of New Bedford, her son Steven Grant and her daughter-in-law Donna, of New Bedford. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren; James and Terry Farrell; Kevin, Colleen, and John Turner; Matthew and Alec Grant as well as many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Her selflessness and love for her family has been a foundation for the many generations that she was a part of. Her memory will live on forever
