Yvonne (Pedro) Mello, 98, of New Bedford died Sunday, February 16, 2020 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Arthur R. Mello.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Candido and Beatriz (Ascencao) Pedro, she lived in Dartmouth for most of her life before moving back to New Bedford.
She was formerly employed as a hairdresser for many years until her retirement. In retirement, she was employed by Coastline Elderly Services.
Yvonne enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cooking. She loved her family and always put others before herself.
She is survived by two children, Gerald Mello and Bonnie Monteiro and her husband John; three grandchildren, Sharon Martin Ponte and her husband Ronald Ponte, John Monteiro, Jr., and Judy Martin and her husband David; three great-grandchildren, Stephanie Martin, Jillian Walker, and Austin Monteiro; her great-great-granddaughter, Chloe Muldoon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Manuel Pedro.
Her memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Burial will be private. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
