Maureen Margret Glasier (Darlington), beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at home on February 17th, 2020, at the age of 88. She was surrounded by those who loved her most. Born November 20, 1931 to Robert and Ethel Darlington in Kingston, Ontario. Maureen accepted Jesus into her heart at a tender young age and lived a life of Christian values.
Growing up in Canada, Maureen enjoyed shopping in New York. It was there, that she met the love of her life, John Milton Glasier. In a romance fit for a movie script, John, a Navy man left for an eight month tour aboard the U.S.S. Duxberry Bay. Their love blossomed through the exchange of beautiful letters, letters the family now has forever to cherish. They married upon his return on May 10, 1952 and began their next adventure and first duty station together in Tennessee. As Maureen and John's love grew so did their family, adding four beautiful children.
Maureen embraced her life as a Navy wife and mother, loving to travel and see the country. Upon her husband's retirement from the Navy, the two eventually settled in the then sleepy bedroom community of Derry, NH in 1972, where they continued to raise their family. They also purchased a farm in upstate New York known as the Lazy G, where they spent many a summer. Those memories are filled with laughter, frog catching and line dancing. Both her and her husband were avid antique collectors, their favorite collectables were those of milk bottles and clocks. They even chose to turn their hobby into a business together, eventually opening their own antique store.
According to those who knew her best, the one thing that may have rivaled her love of family was perhaps her love of chocolate. In her later years, she enjoyed going out to breakfast, watching episodes of Gunsmoke or NCIS and sneaking treats to her dogs. Maureen's legacy is one of generosity and compassion. She is greatly loved and will be missed by all those who knew her.
She is survived by her four children her son John Glasier and wife Sheri of Derry, son Robert Glasier of Derry, son David Glasier and wife Brenda of Oklahoma and daughter Jeannie Arbogast of Derry. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Shaun Glasier, David Glasier, Brittany Glasier, Samantha Nacos, Destini Rogers, Greg Hurley, Randy Hurley and Toni Hurley, as well as 5 great grandchildren, Lincoln, Charlotte, Tyler, Kennedi and Finley and her beloved niece Debbie and husband Randy Gillette of Watertown, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family asks to make donations in Maureen's memory to her favorite charity- St. Jude's hospital. The family would like to personally thank the Hospice Team especially her very special nurse Jeanine and the spiritual guidance of Chaplin Arthur H. Reublinger. Private services will be held at a later date. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry assisted the family with arrangements.
