Jose P. Mauricio passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at the age 77 on February 12th, 2020, with his children and spouse by his side. He was born in São Miguel, Azores in 1942, and he was the son of the late Jose J. Mauricio and Maria P. Pacheco Mauricio.
Jose married Juliette in September 1966, after which he immigrated to the United States on December 22nd, 1966. He lived in New Bedford, MA from 1966 until his passing in 2020. He was an extremely loving and dedicated husband and father, who never hesitated to put those he loved before himself. He was a devout Catholic, who was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in New Bedford.
Jose was a Sergeant in the Portuguese army from 1962-1966, and he served two of those years in Angola, Africa. After immigrating to the United States, he worked for 17 years in a textile mill in the south end of New Bedford, after which he worked as a custodian in retail and at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish, from which he retired. Jose had an amazing work ethic that was motivated by his love for his family and by his desire to offer his children boundless opportunities.
Jose will be remembered always for his extraordinary kindness, his unique way of making people laugh without trying, his love of food (especially bread and fish), his passionate beliefs, his uncanny ability to be both calm and highly excitable, and his ability to love unconditionally.
He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Juliette Mauricio; his children Mario, Anne, and Jaimy Mauricio and their spouses Michelle Mauricio, James Afremow, and Joey Mauricio; his four grandchildren Jesse and Jared Mauricio, Maria Paz Afremow, and Alizabeth Mauricio; several nieces and nephews and his two sisters Fernanda Guerreiro and Natalia Raposo, to whom he was extremely dedicated.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, February 17th, 2020 from 5-8 p.m. at the Perry Funeral Home in New Bedford on 111 Dartmouth St., New Bedford, MA, 02740. His Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 18th, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on 230 Bonney St, New Bedford, MA 02744. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church.
