Robert Evans Kellogg, aged 76, died at home on February 8, 2020, after a period of declining heart health. He was born on November 21, 1943, in Utica, NY to the late Sara Evans Kellogg and the late William Greenwood Kellogg. He graduated from Amherst College and from the NYU Courant Institute with a master’s degree in Mathematics. He married his high school sweetheart Margaret Heywood in 1966.
He taught mathematics in Stoughton, MA and at West Bridgewater High School, where he also served as the coordinator of the math department for many years. He was deeply devoted to helping his students understand mathematics. A self-taught computer programmer, he later worked as an instructor teaching Java computer programming.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his son Timothy H. Kellogg and daughter-in-law Marni Kellogg of Portsmouth, RI; his son Thomas E. Kellogg and daughter-in-law Lisa Sangoi of Washington, D.C.; and his son William J. Kellogg and daughter-in-law Kimberley Kellogg of West Bridgewater, MA. He is also survived by four beloved grandchildren: Ashton of Portsmouth, Abigail and Robert of West Bridgewater, and Kavya of Washington, D.C.
In his later years, he was devoted to his dog , Zoe, and made many friends in the neighborhood while walking her.
He is also survived by two brothers and their families: David S. Kellogg of Loudonville, NY, and Philip J. Kellogg of Honeoye Falls, NY. His older brother, William G. Kellogg of Colorado, predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held at First Universalist Society of Franklin, MA, on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at 1 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
