DONALD D. ZAHNER, age 81, a Hingham resident for the past 5 years, died on Thursday, Feb. 2nd at the Harbor House Nursing Center in Hingham after a long illness. Mr. Zahner was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri where he graduated from Washington University. From 1956 to 1969, he was the Public Relations Director of the 7-Up Company in St. Louis. In 1969 Mr. Zahner relocated to Dorset, Vermont where he founded Fly Fisherman Magazine, of which he was the editor and publisher. In 1978, he sold the magazine to Ziff-Davis Publishing Company of New York. Mr. Zahner retired in 1981. He lived in Cohasset for a few years before coming to Hingham in 2000. In 2004 he was inducted into the Fly Fishing Hall of Fame in Roscoe, NY.
Husband of the late Mary Ann (Moore) Zahner, he leaves two sons; John S. Zahner of Hingham and Kurt M. Zahner of West Nyack, New York, two daughters; Sally H. Zahner of San Francisco, California and Mary C. "Molly" Zahner of Oakland, California, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, Feb. 5th at 2 PM at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham.
