New Bedford – Maria Natevidade (Pimentel) Vieira, age 95, of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Cabral Vieira.
Maria was born in Ribeira Quente, St. Michael, Azores to the late Jose A. and Jacinta (Linhares) Pimentel. She moved to this area in 1967, where she had worked the floor for Mickey Madan Handbags for many years.
Maria was an active member of Mount Carmel Church. She loved going to church and praying, as well as, helping with many functions including the Bazaar, where she would cook and make Malasadas. She would also stop by nursing homes around the area to visit and pray with the residents.
She is survived by her children, Jose P. Vieira and his wife Lina, Rita Samagaio and her husband Paul, Arminda Borges and her husband David, Antonio Vieira and his wife Maria and John Vieira and his wife Delores Brum; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Gloria Pimentel and Arminda Melo; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Antonio Pimentel and the late Lurdes Carvalho.
Maria’s visiting hours will be held on Thursday evening, February 13th from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will be Friday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
