Obituary

DUDLEY - Walter Kurpiel, 86, of 14 West Main St, died Saturday, Feb. 4, in Saint Vincent Hospital after a brief illness.

He leaves 2 sons, Wesley Kurpiel and Waldemar Kurpiel of Poland; 2 brothers, Josef Kurpiel and Leon Kurpiel of Poland; 4 sisters, Maria Gradet of France, Josefina Balamut of Poland, Janina Kurpiel of Dudley and Zofia Bieszczad of Poland; 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife, Maria (Janas) Kurpiel, his daughter, Elizabeth Kurpiel and his 2 brothers Stanislaw and Frank Kurpiel.

He was born in Czorsztyn, Krakow, Poland a son of Josef and Zofia (Rozmus) Kurpiel and came to the United States in 1978.

Mr. Kurpiel was employed as a welder in Poland and worked here as a mill hand in Anglo Fabrics until his retirement in 1996. He was forced to work in the labor camps by the Nazis during World War II. He was a parishioner of Saint Andrew Bobola Church and a member of the Sacred Heart Society at Saint Joseph Basilica in Webster. He was also a member of the Webster PAV.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St, Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main St. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. Calling hours will be Monday, Feb 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Donations may be made to Saint Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main St., Dudley, MA 01571-0098.
