Hilda C. (Teixeira) Silvia, age 98, a former lifelong resident of Norton, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2020 in Florida. She was the beloved wife of the late Leonard P. Silvia, to whom she was wed for sixty-one years at the time of his death on April 18, 2003.
Born in Norton, MA on December 5, 1921, she was a loving daughter of the late John R. and Maria (Mendes) Teixeira.
Hilda grew up in Norton, was a graduate of Norton High School and received her certification in hairdressing. She was an adoring and gracious wife and mother to her devoted family and for many years, operated a hair dressing shop from her former residence on Mansfield Avenue in Norton.
A resident of Florida for the past eight years, Hilda was a former lifelong communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton and longtime member of the Norton Grange.
Hilda’s family was the essence of her life and enjoyed the many lifelong friendships she made throughout the years. She loved gardening and maintaining her yard in Norton, well into her late 80’s. She was very supportive of her late husband Lennie, who served on numerous political committees in Norton and together they shared a love in their involvement with 4-H, raising cows and attending many farming events at the Brockton Fair and the Big E in Springfield.
She was the devoted mother of Leonard J. Silvia and Richard P. Silvia both of Florida and the late Ronald P. Silvia. She was the dear sister of Rosalina Hicks and the late John J. “Tacky” Teixeira, Joseph R. Teixeira, Tony Teixeira, Manuel R. “Cocoa” Teixeira, Joan Mathews, Elsie Gilson, Mary Monteiro and Margaret Cullingworth. She is also survived by her loving 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend her Mass of Christian burial on Thursday, February 13th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
Visiting hours are omitted and those wishing may remember Hilda with a contribution in her memory made to the charity of one’s choice,
