Mary Shang Chin, 93, of Dedham, MA, passed away February 6, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Joe Fong Chin and dear mother of David Chin, Barbara Yong, John Chin and the late Christine Chin. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides being a loving and caring mother, grandmother and aunt, Mary was also a compassionate and generous friend to many people. People loved her! She became a devoted Christian in midlife at the First Baptist Church (FBC) of Boston where she became a church leader. She helped to raise three young granddaughters and brought them to the FBC Sunday School after her husband’s death. She loved all children and advocated for all children. Her church recognized her with a banquet and a leadership award.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 from 10:00–11:00am followed by her funeral service from 11:00am-12:00pm at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM. Interment will follow the service at the Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Ave., Boston.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org or Norwood Adult Day Health Center, 595 Pleasant St., Norwood, MA 02062, communityvna.com in Mary’s memory would be greatly appreciated. She loved her time at the Norwood Adult Day Health Center socializing with other clients and staff members; and she also enjoyed the many fun activities. This vital service program is a great help to vulnerable seniors and their family caregivers!
