Hercules E. "Vava" Barbosa, 46 of New Bedford died January 25, 2020 after a long illness at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born and raised in Santiago, Cape Verde, the son of Idalina Rocha of New Bedford and the late Walquirio Barbosa, he lived in Brockton and New Bedford most of his life.
Hercules was formerly employed as an electrician with his brother at Freire Electric.
He was a Benfica soccer fan.
Hercules was a kind, respectful, easy going person with a strong soul.
Survivors include his mother; his son, Macario Barbosa of Revere; his 10 brothers and sisters, Jose Walquirio Barbosa, Jose Pedro Barbosa, Jose Barbosa, Euricles Barbosa, Eunice Billick, Jose Rui Freire, Maria daLuz Barbosa, Maria Domingos Barbosa, Silvino Barbosa and Joana Goncalves; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, February 1st at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday, January 31st from 4-8 PM.
