George L. Martel, 79, of Derry, NH died Friday February 3, 2006 in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. Mr. Martel was born in Rumford, ME on July 3, 1926, a son of the late David and Bertha (Thibodeau) Martel. He had resided in Derry since 1970, formerly living in Lynn, MA. Mr. Martel served with the US Navy during WWII. He was employed as a warehouse manager for Borden Foods in Medford, MA for many years and later retired from the City of Manchester Water Department. He was an avid Contract Bridge player.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Florence B. (Hollingsworth) Martel of Derry, one son, Stephen Martel of Groveland, MA, three daughters, Cheryl Tiano of Tyngsboro, MA, Denise Giroux of Epping, NH, Maureen Hutchins of Derry, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters, Louise Martel of South Carolina and Jeanne Lyons of Lowell, MA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
There were no calling hours. Following cremation, private memorial services were held in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Burial will take place in the Spring in Holy Cross Cemetery, Londonderry, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, NH Chapter, 10 Ferry St., Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301.
