John F. Pendergast, 86, of Fairhaven passed away Saturday January 18, 2020 at home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Carole E. (Doucette) Pendergast.
Born in Somerville, the son of the late John F. and Catherine (Parrott) Pendergast, he was raised in New Bedford and lived in Fairhaven for the past 50 years. He was a graduate of Holy Family High School.
John was formerly employed as a laborer for the Laborers Union Local 385, where he also served as recording secretary.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Carole; five children, Kathleen Goldrick of Middleboro, Colleen Pickup, John Pendergast, and Eileen Marques, all of Fairhaven, and Rochelle Manley of New Bedford; his sister, Janet Kantor of California; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Michele Spangler; his grandchildren, David Spangler, Bethany Spangler, and Rory Pendergast; and his siblings, Phyllis Boucher, Jean Quigley, Kay Guliano, Mary Muldoon, William, James, and Robert Pendergast.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday January 25, 2020 at 10:15 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Route 6, Mattapoisett, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven at 11:15 AM.
