Anna A. Kitchens, age 79, entered into a peaceful rest on Friday, January 10, 2020 following a brief illness.
Mrs. Kitchens was born in Augusta to the late Clifford Avrett and Henrietta Hildebrandt Avrett. She received her teaching degree from Georgia Southern and devoted the majority of her adult life to influencing and loving on first graders in the Columbia County school system. She began teaching the day South Columbia Elementary School opened it’s doors and went on to retire from Stevens Creek Elementary School in 1995. She had a great passion for teaching children who struggled with reading and she was a gifted artist in the classroom. She will be remembered for her selfless acts of love, her devotion to her family, her sweet disposition, and above all- her faith in the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Gene Kitchens; and sister, Katie Wimberly.
She is survived by her daughter and the light of her life, Kristine K. Brown of Evans; two grandchildren, Nicklaus T. Brown and Cara M. Brown, both of Evans; two brothers, Clifford Avrett, Jr. (Julie) of Evans and John N. Avrett of North Augusta; former son-in-law, Tom Brown (Heidi) of Grovetown; niece, Rosalind Avrett Jones (Cord); and nephews, Forrest Wimberly (Hayes), Stephen Wimberly (Tara), and Christian Avrett.
Services were private at Westover Memorial Park. Mrs. Kitchens former student, Pastor Bryan Cockrell officiated.
