FALL RIVER – Raymond M. Carreira, age 89 of Fall River and Largo, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 15th in the comforts of his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Fall River, Ray was the beloved husband for almost 69 years to Rose E. (Hiatt) Carreira and the son of the late Manuel & Maria (Almeida) Carreiro.
Ray was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the 142nd Armored Signal Company. Prior to retiring, Ray worked as an Assistant Occupational Therapist at the Brockton V.A. Hospital. Ray also volunteered for the “Young At Heart” Non-Profit Organization, in which volunteers would do repairs to area parks, residents homes and properties to raise donations to help children and their schools. Ray, along with his wife, were members of the Teakwood Social Club in Largo, FL.
In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by his children: Lisa Carreira of Fall River, Brenda Esperanca of Berkley, and Gilbert R. Carreira (wife JoAnne) of Westport; grandchildren: Kayla & Kathryn Carreira, and the late Marc Esperanca; nieces and nephews. Ray was also the brother of the late Mary Medeiros, Angelina Raposo, Arthur Mello, Alfred Correiro, and Gilbert Correiro.
