Mattie Thorn Atkinson,age 86, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2006 in Baptist Memorial Hospital N-MS at Oxford, MS. Mrs. Atkinson was married to William Mack Atkinson, who preceded her in death on August 31, 1974. She was a homemaker and member of Anchor Baptist Church in Lafayette County.
Visitation will be at Seven Oaks Funeral Home on Thursday evening, February 2, 2006 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 3, 2006 with Dr. Gerald Shook officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Yalobusha County. Pallbearers are: Daniel Benefield, Andrew Benefield, Michael Pierce, Allan Pierce, Chris Atkinson, Jason Atkinson, Jon Mark Carlson and David Carlson
Survivors include: 2 daughters, Barbara Gentry of Boring, OR and Betty Pierce of Raliegh, NC: 2 sons, William M. Atkinson, Jr. of Water Valley, MS and Ira "Buddy" Atkinson of Florence, MS: sister,Louise Wilson of Grenada, MS: 10 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by her parents, Hite and Mary Miller Thorn; Sisters, Emma Jean Dorroh and Ruth Atkinson;Brothers, Richard Thorn, Mack Thorn, Howard Thorn and Shelby "Red" Thorn .
