Leland George ‘Lee’ Penttila, 77, passed away January 10, 2020 at UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
His wife of over 41 years, Beverly J. (Carleton) died in 2009.
He leaves a son, Matthew C. Penttila and his partner Audrey Story of Blackstone and a daughter, Sarah E. Snay and her husband Glenn of Spencer, 3 grandchildren; Cassandra and Holly Penttila and Wyatt Snay, and a sister, Marian Bell of Spencer as well as Lee’s significant other, Georgia Inez Petrella of Leicester.
Lee was born in Worcester, October 1, 1942 son of Oiva and Beatrice Median (Saarinen) Penttila. He was a graduate of Worcester Boy’s Trade and then joined the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam war. He enjoyed fresh water and salt water fishing and was a Ham operator with a call of K1GTC. Lee enjoyed his trike motorcycle and was a charter member of the Quaboag Valley Amateur Radio Club and Long Way and Mid Way Mystery Riders Clubs. He enjoyed trips to Laconia, Daytona, Sturgis, Colorado and Pike’s Peak. He was a former assistant Boy Scout master.
Lee’s best and proudest times were spent with his grandchildren, who he cherished.
Memorial Calling hours will be Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 1-3pm at the ROBERT J. MILLER-CHARLTON FUNERAL HOME, 175 Old Worcester Rd. with a Memorial Service at 3 pm in the Funeral Home, Burial will be in the spring at West Ridge Cemetery in Charlton, next to his beloved wife.
