Obituary

Lee Roy (Lee) Ryel, 77, of Chicopee Massachusetts passed away on January 9, 2020. Lee was born in Beverly Hills, California. He was a seaman in the United States Coast Guard in 1960. He is predeceased by his sisters Dolores and Cecile and his parents Charles and Daisy (Sutterfield) Ryel. He is survived by his wife Karen, his daughter LeeAnn King and her husband George, sons Donald Ryel and his wife Donna, Ronald Ryel and his wife Lori, and Brendan Ryel, his stepdaughters Jennifer Benoit and her husband Mike, and Jessica Kirby along with fourteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Lee started his work as a Respiratory Therapist at UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, California; then made his way east where he continued his career at most of the local hospitals, including Bridgeport, Stanford, and Veteran’s hospitals in Connecticut, followed by time at Holyoke, Baystate, and Shriners hospitals in Massachusetts where he retired at age 72. He also worked for various home health agencies as a consultant. He was active in the Shriners for many years and enjoyed riding his mini-scooter in parades. He loved traveling “wherever the day took him”, camping, and fishing. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Burial will be private. The family would like to thank the staff at both Lucky Strike and Petros for keeping him well fed throughout the years. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
