PORTLAND- Carolyn (Callie) B. Carson, 83, of Portland, passed away at Gosnell House in Scarborough on December 18, 2019, surrounded by people she loved. For the love of her family she fought a brief but courageous battle against AML. Callie the second of 12 children was born on October 14, 1936, to Elgee G. Brice and Elmer E. Darling. She attended Portland public schools and worked as a former waitress with her sisters at their restaurant, The Four Sisters Diner. She retired from S&B Norge Village Laundromat which she managed for many years.
She was my favorite person, I idolized her approach to life. I have always appreciated and admired her strong personality. I don’t know what we will do without her, she was our rock and we depended on her for so much. We were so blessed to have her as our mother, she was a special woman completely genuine. She was such a flirt even until her final days she was still giving winks and smiles that would melt your heart. She was so very funny, oh the stories we will continue to tell. She was so giving to others, she would never let anyone go without. If she had it and you wanted it, it was yours. She was truly unforgettable, to meet her once was to love her always. She cherished the time she spent surrounded by her family, as it’s been said many times it is both a blessing and a curse to be a part of such a large family.
She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Eleanor E. "Ellie" Voisine, Alice Lailer, and her brothers, William M. Darling Sr., George R. Darling, Steven A. Darling, Peter A. Darling, Frederick Darling and John G. Darling. As well as the love of her life Jay C. Callie is survived by her son, John G. Carson, daughter, Shirley A. Peterson, grandsons Tyler A.
