CHICOPEE ~ Cecile M. (Geoffroy) Benard, 93, of the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at Heritage Hall North in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Chicopee on November 13, 1926, a beloved daughter of the late Hercule and Lucia (Babineau) Geoffroy. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Holy Name High School in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. She was employed as a cook at Chicopee Comprehensive High School for many years. She was a communicant of the former Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and the former Saint Patrick Church and currently was a communicant of Saint Anne Church, all in Chicopee. During her leisure time, she enjoyed camping and was a member of the Pioneer Valley Chapter 8 of the North America Campers Association. She loved crafting with her late husband, Edward and also sang with many local Church choirs and at many Aldenville Junior Athletic Club (AJAC) variety shows. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Edward N. Benard who was Called Home on March 30, 2014. They were married on November 9, 1946 at the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with over 67 years of happiness together. She leaves her four loving children, Richard E. Benard of Agawam, Ronald J. Benard and his wife, Dale, of Chicopee, Roger N. Benard and his partner, Gail Lagoditz, of Westfield and her son, Nick Lagoditz, and Robert P. Benard and his wife, Donna, of Southampton; her 12 cherished grandchildren, Richard Benard and his wife, Nicole, Neil Benard and his wife, Crystal, Aaron Benard and his wife, Shaina, Katie Benard, Allison Benard, Jeffrey Benard and his wife, Sarah, Daniel Benard, Danyella Davis and her husband, Jacob, Nathan Benard and his companion, Kira Kolodziej, Lauren Benard and twins Ethan and Erin Benard; her many cherished great-grandchildren; her dear sister, Rhea Plourde of East Longmeadow; her special niece, Teresa Connor of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Benard and Geoffroy families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her loving daughter-in-law, Juliette M. “Julie” (Sylvain) Benard; her five dear brothers, Armand, Joseph, Raymond, Albert and Edmond Benard; and her two dear sisters, Lillian Messier and Lena Connor. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the Mass. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear.
