Shirley Allen Underwood, 79, of Chula passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at Pruitt Health in Ashburn. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2020, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mrs. Underwood will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church on Sunday, January 12, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Jaimie Allen, Dake Boling, Finn Queen, Colin Queen, Blake Underwood, Al Burns and Mike Marchant will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Joy Sunday School Class of Tifton’s First Baptist Church.
Born March 3, 1940 in Tifton, Mrs. Underwood was the daughter of the late Hansel W. Allen, Sr. and Helen Thrasher Allen. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Hansel Allen, Jr. Before retiring, she was a school teacher and she was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Underwood is survived by her husband, Larry Underwood of Chula; two sons and daughters-in-law, Russ and Mary Underwood of Destin, Florida and Doug and Victoria Underwood of Green Cove Springs, Florida; one daughter, Linda Truman of Oak Ridge, North Carolina; one brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Quay Allen of Adel; a sister-in-law, Janice Allen of Chula; five grandchildren, Colin Queen, Finn Queen, Cavan Truman, Blake Underwood and Ashley Spurlin; and her nieces and nephews, Jaimie Allen, Kim Boling, Heidi Burns and Rebecca Lee.
