Lynn Katherine (Becht) Ortiz, of Winchester, formerly a longtime resident of New York, passed away on January 7, 2020 with her son by her side. She courageously fought a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Lynn was born June 20, 1944 in Jamaica, NY, daughter of the late Dorothy (Klein) and Howard Richhold. She worked as a nurse for many years in hospitals in New York, and her co-workers fondly remember her upbeat and energetic personality. She then worked at a gift shop and a furniture store. In recent years she moved to Massachusetts to be close to her son. She displayed unfailing love to her son Joseph, who is eternally grateful for her dedication to her role as mother. After retiring, she volunteered in a nursing home and also as a tutor. She was an active participant in her church, and has kept in touch with a wonderful group of close friends from her high school days at Sayville and Smithtown High. Her family most remembers her for her kindness, warm smile, and sense of humor. Lynn is survived by her son Joseph and his wife Marianne (Simonelli) of Winchester, MA, and her three granddaughters Kate, Maggie, and Nora. She is also survived by her sister Lesley Chesley and her husband Wayne, and her nephew Alan Chesley of Port Jefferson, NY. Lynn’s family is grateful for the compassionate care she received from the Sutton Home in Peabody and Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester. A private burial will take place in Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, parkinson.org
