WORCESTER-Mary E. (McTigue) O’Brien, 81 of 15 Merchant Street died Saturday, July 6th in St Vincent Hospital. Her husband, Patrick F. O’Brien died in 1991. She leaves 5 sons, Francis P., Timothy J., and Joseph V. all of Worcester, James F. of Paxton and Terrence M. of Oxford; 5 daughters, Mary Ellen Thorpe, Ann Marie White, Kathleen M. Gaffney, Noreen A. Hanlon with whom she lived all of Worcester, and Eileen T. Stupik of Marlboro; a brother, James “Bobby” McTigue of Worcester; 25 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 3 brothers, Francis J., Edward V. and Walter L. all predeceased her.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Francis J. and Nellie A. (Carpenter) McTigue and lived here all her life. She graduated from St. Peter’s High School. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and the former women’s guild. She was an avid bingo player.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 9th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, July 8th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Angels Mortgage Fund, 1222 Main Street, Worcester, MA or to the Visiting Nurses’ Association, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
