Francis W. Caratelli of Billerica, formerly of Medford, passed away on Tuesday, January 7th. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late William and Columbia (Coviello) Caratelli.
Francis was drafted into the United States Marine Corp in the summer of 1968, serving during the Vietnam War before being honorably discharged in the summer of 1970. Francis was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnamese Service Medal with the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Fran worked extremely hard and was proud of his accomplishments as an electrician in Local 103. When Fran was not working, he enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots, and playing the organ. Fran’s biggest passion was spending time with his grandson Declan and his furry grandchild Dozer.
Francis was the beloved husband of the late Rosemarie A. (Manzelli) Caratelli. He was the devoted father of David Caratelli, and his wife Becky, and the loving Grampa of Declan Caratelli. He was the dear brother of Michael Caratelli, Peter Caratelli and Terri Goodwin, and the best friend of Charlie and Cindy Sheehan, and Marie and Gerry Williams. He is also survived by many loving family members and friends.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Saturday, January 11th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 - 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
