Dorothea worked as a data processor for Kidde Fenwal (an electronics manufacturing company) in Ashland for 27 years, retiring in 1986. Before she was married, she worked as a professional figure skater, touring with the Ice Capades on the West Coast. In the 1940's, Dottie won the "Miss Massachusetts" Queen of the Ice Contest, and the "new England Ice Queen" title. She also competed in National "Queen of Ice Title" finishing in the top 6 ranking. Shortly after her figure skating career, she received a contract with Paramount Pictures and moved to Hollywood to begin a career in movies. World War II soon followed and Dorothea's plans changed. She married and raised her family.
Dorothea was a voracious reader. She consumed serious non-fiction books, often reading 3 or 4 books consecutively. She enjoyed a wide range of subjects including history, politics, business, sports and geography.
She will be greatly missed by her family.
