CHICOPEE – Omer J. Jodoin, Jr, 70, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 2, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on June 27, 1949, a beloved son of the late Omer J. and Jean M. (Barnes) Jodoin. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and a Bronze Service Medal. Following his military service, he returned to Chicopee and worked for 38 years as a Dry Wall Contractor for the United Dry Wall Company, Inc. and retired in 2009. He was a member of the Painters and Allied Trades DC 35 and the YMCA in Holyoke. He was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. Most of all, Omer was a quiet man who loved his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Maria A. (Charette) Jodoin. They were married on October 6, 1973 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 46 years of happiness together. He also leaves his six loving children, Stephen A. Jodoin, Laura A. Lucas and her husband, Eric, Brian D. Jodoin and his wife, Heather, Christina M. Davidson and her husband, Mark, Melanie C. Bohn and her husband, Anthony, and Catherine M. Jodoin; his 12 cherished grandchildren; his two dear brothers, Gary G. Jodoin and David R. Jodoin; his dear sister, Karen L. Sattler; and his many dear brothers and sisters-in-law and nephews and nieces. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 with everyone meeting directly at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
