Sergio Mendes Barros (80) of Brockton died December 30th in the Chetwynde Healthcare Center, Newton.
He was born in Mosteiros, Fogo, Cabo Verde son of the late Nicolau Barros and Maria Mendes and was a retail store owner. Sergio was a communicant of St. Edith Stein and St. Patrick Church in Boston. He enjoyed listening to music, watching the news, cooking and was known for being a sharp dresser.
Survivors include 5 daughters, Maria and Catarina Barros both of Brockton, Filomena Barros of Newton, Iraceuma and Evita Barros both of Angola, (father of the late Francisco Barros), 4 sisters, Maria Santa Resende Barros of Brockton, Maria Sequeira and Fatima Do Santos both of Boston and Genoveua Barros of Cabo Verde, (also brother of the late Josefa Barros), many grandchildren.
Services from the Home of Funerarias Multi Culturel, 238 Court Street Brockton Tuesday January 7th at 9 am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Church, 71 E Main Street Brockton at 10 am. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery, 88 N Pearl Street Brockton. Visitation in the Funeral Home Monday January 6th from 5-8 pm.
