Telmo D. Barbosa, 81, of New Bedford died Monday, December 30, 2019 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was the husband of Domingas (Xavier) Barbosa.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, son of the late Abel Barbosa and Maria (DaRosa) Moniza, he had lived in New Bedford for many years.
He was employed as a merchant mariner for many years until his retirement.
Telmo loved music, sports and spending time with his family. He was an avid traveler, having visited over 100 countries and enjoyed frequently traveling to Cape Verde.
He is survived by his wife, Domingas; 11 children, Eduardo Sousa, John Sousa, Americo Barbosa, Abel Barbosa, Francisco Barbosa, Adelide Barbosa, Anselmo Barbosa, Maria Teresa Barbosa, Antero Barbosa, Telma Barbosa, and Adolfo Barbosa; his sister, Maria Mesquita and her children Sandra and John; 30 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
