William “Fred” Turner, Sr., 82, of Chula passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019, at Maple Court Assisted Living in Tifton. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2019, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Jeff Pangle and the Rev. Jimmy Albritton officiating. Mr. Turner will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals on Tuesday, December 31, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Chase Powell, Cole Ryder, Garrett Chambless, Jeremy Chambless, Howard Layton and Casey Joyner will serve as pallbearers.
Born February 9, 1937 in Ashburn, Mr. Turner was the son of the late William John Turner and Laura Mae Fillyaw Turner. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Lee Turner, who passed away in 2004. He retired from United States Navy, where he served for twenty years. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Turner is survived by his wife, Lois Annelle “Ann” Joyner Turner of Chula; three sons, Bruce Turner of Jackson, Eric Turner of Florida and William Fred Turner, Jr. of Acworth; one step-son, LaDon Chambless and wife Kacee of Irwinville; one step-daughter, Michelle Ryder and husband Bill of Tifton; two brothers, B. Mack Williamson of Ty Ty and Leon Turner of Toccoa; three sisters, Brenda Joyce Pope, Linda Faye Turner and Barbara Wood, all of Tifton; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
