WEST SPRINGFIELD ~ Janet A. "Jan" (Piteo) O’Connor, 86, a former resident of the Landmark at Monastery Heights in West Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at Mount Saint Vincent Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by all of the memories that she loved and cherished. She was born in Springfield on May 20, 1933, the beloved daughter of the late Rocco and Jennie (Fazio) Piteo. She was raised in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield and graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield. She later moved to West Springfield in 1987 where she resided until moving to the Doverbrook Estates in Chicopee in 2005. She then moved to the Landmark at Monastery Heights in 2013. She was employed as a chef and caterer at several local restaurants over the years and had most recently worked for the Diocese of Springfield at the Cathedral of Saint Michael the Archangel in Springfield. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. During her leisure time, she enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and traveling often. Above all, she loved cooking and entertaining for her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Maurice J. “Moe” O’Connor who was Called Home on March 20, 2013. They were married on August 4, 1956 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 56 years of happiness together. She leaves her four loving children, Rory J. O’Connor and his wife, Irene Fuerst, of San Francisco, CA, Lynn St. Pierre and her husband, Philip, of Hebron, CT, Beth A. O’Connor of Easthampton and Michael M. O’Connor and his wife, Siobhan, of West Suffield, CT; her six cherished grandchildren, Kerry O'Connor and her husband, Stephen Amar, Phillip O'Connor, Melissa O'Connor and her husband, Nicholas, Steven St. Pierre and Zachary and Addison O'Connor; her cherished great-grandson, Gideon; her dear brother, Lawrence “Larry” Piteo and his wife, Dorothy "Slick" Piteo, of Venice, FL; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the O'Connor and Piteo families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Joseph Piteo. Family and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. Prayer Service at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her Committal Service will follow the Prayer Service at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
