Obituary

Romell Harper McCoy, 84, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Monday, December 23, 2019 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, December 27, 2019, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, Georgia, with Brother Joey Veal officiating. Interment will follow in the Lax Cemetery in Irwin County, Georgia. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mrs. McCoy was born March 24, 1935, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Orville & Gladys Swilley Harper. She attended school in Lax and graduated from high school in 1954 in Irwin County. Mrs. McCoy later received an associate’s degree from a secretarial college in Jacksonville, Florida. She returned home and worked for Dill Hardware for a short time. Mrs. McCoy then began her 50-year banking career with the Bank of Ocilla, now known as Ameris Bank. She served in every department of the bank and truly enjoyed serving the customers. Mrs. McCoy loved to cook and craft and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her daughters: Nancy Young & Kenny of Fitzgerald, Sandy Ammons & Raymond Herndon of Austin, Texas and Denise Carver & Faron of Ocilla; grandchildren: Jason Young & Suzanna, Justin Young & Bonni, William Towson & Misty, Kayla Lanier & Dustin, Scott Carver & Krystal and Lee Carver & Holly; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings: Jeffrey Quinn of Broxton, Johnnie Kay Kight of Fitzgerald and Jackson Orville Harper of Lax. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. “Bob” McCoy.
