Obituary

Sullivan, Charles V. Jr., age 76, of Medford, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on December 22nd. Born in Somerville, Chuck was the son of the late Charles Sullivan and Mary Sullivan (neé McClellan).

He proudly served in the Air Force, then worked at Mass General Hospital as a surgical aide where he met nurse Ruth (neé Gillis) Sullivan, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. Chuck was a firefighter at Hanscom Air Force Base, and later South Weymouth Naval Air base, from where he eventually retired. Proud Dad to Chuck Sullivan and wife Sandra of Ipswich, Mike Sullivan and wife Paula of Plymouth, and Jennifer Sullivan of Medford. Prouder Grandpa to Jason, Jessica, Shannon and Alison. Beloved brother-in-law and uncle.

A man of few words, the ones he chose were usually dry. A perfect day was a hot cup of coffee, hopefully a donut, surrounded by his family, trading verbal jabs, and slipping money to the grand kids when he thought their parents weren’t looking. A great source of pride was that his son Mike followed in his footsteps and became firefighter for the City of Melrose. He also enjoyed listening to the latest stories from the firehouse. We will miss him dearly, but are relieved he is now at peace
