CHICOPEE – Gabrielle P. (Lavallee) Bergeron, 100, a longtime resident of Chicopee, and East Village Place was Called Safely Home Sunday, December 22, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Canada on November 14, 1919, a daughter of the late Philias J. and Lumina (Vincent) Lavallee. She moved to Chicopee in 1922 with her family and graduated from Chicopee High School. During her early years, she was employed as an Executive Secretary for the City of Chicopee. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Gabrielle and her late husband, Raymond, were active in the National Right to Life and members of Cursillo. They also participated in the United States Elderhostel. During her leisure time, Gabe enjoyed oil painting, playing the organ, sewing, quilting, golf and tennis. She also enjoyed skiing until the age of 82. She was also known to be an “awesome cheater” while playing double solitaire. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, memere, grand memere, sister and friend who loved her family and showered them with her love and affection. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, Raymond J. Bergeron, who was Called Home February 20, 1998. They were married on August 17, 1942 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Chicopee and blessed with 55 years of happiness together. She leaves her five loving children, Jacqueline and her husband, Yvon Pellerin, Denise and her husband, Leon Simard, Colette and her husband, Robert Sweeney, Lucie and her husband, Deacon Jim Ziemba, and Marc Bergeron and his wife, Rita; her 14 cherished grandchildren, her 23 great-grandchildren; her loving sister, Gisele J. Mercier of Chicopee; and her dear sister-in-law, Merle Lavallee. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Vincent Lavallee and her brother-in-law, Gerald R. “Murph” Mercier. Her family would like to thank her special care givers at East Village Place. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Saint Cecilia Church, 42 Main Street, Wilbraham, MA 01095. Her burial will be private for her family at a later date at Sainte Rose Cemetery, Chicopee.
