Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Mary E. (Nickerson) Taylor, (also known as Betty Taylor), 72, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, December 20, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Ludlow on April 16, 1947, a beloved daughter of the late William Nickerson and Irene (Black) Nickerson Lamontagne. She was raised in the Indian Orchard and the North End sections of Springfield and lived in Springfield her entire life. Mary previously worked at the former Buxton Corporation in Agawam and the Gemini Corporation in the South End section of Springfield. At the age of 49, Mary returned to school and received an Associate’s Degree in Business from Springfield Technical Community College. She then began a new career as a Claims Adjuster and retired as a Supervisor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Employment Training in Springfield. She was an avid reader and especially loved being a “Grandma” to her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved the summer months with them in her backyard swimming pool. Her favorite watched television series was “Murder She Wrote” with Angela Lansbury and she viewed nearly every episode. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her loving sister, Carol (Nickerson) Menard; and her dear brother, Richard E. “Rick” Nickerson who was Called Home on February 23, 2019. She leaves her loving husband and soul mate, John C. Taylor, Sr. They were married on May 21, 1966 at the former Liberty Methodist Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 53 years of happiness together. She also leaves her loving children, John C. “JT” Taylor, Jr. and his wife, Angela, of Ludlow and Carol I. Bardwell and her husband, Jon, of Litchfield, NH; her four cherished grandchildren, Stephanie, Daniel and Joseph Taylor and Michael Bardwell; her three cherished great-grandchildren, Alicia Goncalves, Joao “JJ” Goncalves and Abel Taylor; her dear sister-in-law, Maureen A. “Moe” (Aberdale) Nickerson of Springfield; her three dear nieces; her dear nephew; and her numerous friends and extended members of the Taylor and Nickerson families. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Saturday, December 28, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Service at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
