Fred D. Baskin, IV, age 27, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 17, 2019.
Born in Boston, MA on March 8, 1992, he was a loving son of Fred D. Baskin, Jr. of Mansfield and Janet Cruz of South Carolina.
Fred grew up in Boston and Mansfield. At the age of six, he began playing basketball and throughout his life was a true sports enthusiast. He was a 2010 graduate of Mansfield High School, where he excelled in basketball and football. He attended Bunker Hill Community College and continued his love for sports as a member of the Brockton Bucs semi-pro football team and the D League basketball expansion team.
A resident of Mansfield for over ten years, Fred had most recently worked in Banqueting at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield and had previously been employed as a mover for the Patriot Relocation Center in Foxboro. He loved spending times with his children and family and will always be remembered for his ability to make others around him feel happy and laugh, regardless of the situation.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his precious and devoted sons: Jayden D. Baskin and his mother Kayla Hurley of Lewiston, Maine and Benjamin C. Baskin and his mother Chelsea Colageo of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Latoya Cruz-Wyatt of Boston, Janet F. Cruz of Boston, Erika Cruz-Abraham of South Carolina, Nicholas Baskin of Mansfield, Fred D. Baskin, III of Mansfield, Aszane Cruz of South Carolina, Makhi Baskin of Mansfield and Giovanni Brown of South Carolina. He was the cherished grandson of Fred D. Baskin, Sr. of Virginia and is also survived by many-many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, December 28th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Roslindale.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 27th from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers and in regard to the love Fred had for his sons, the family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Fred D. Baskin, IV Children’s Educational Fund, care of Mansfield Bank, 80 North Main St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
