David A. Shulenburg, age 69 of Kennebunk Maine passed away peacefully on December 17, 2019 after a brief illness.
David was born on March 22, 1950 in South Boston, Massachusetts to the late Fredrick H. and Florence B. (McGrath). He is survived by his brother Mark and his wife Beverly of Greenfield, MA, sister Patricia and her husband Michael Devin of Quincy, MA and the late Jon. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and his former wife Jeanne Gabriel of Kennebunk, Maine.
David was a long-term member of Rotary, participating in many club activities which served the betterment of his community and contributed his time and resources to worldwide humanitarian efforts. He established and coordinated a volunteer Salvation Army Kettle Collection effort for more than 20 years during Kennebunkport's Annual Christmas Prelude. Those funds were returned to the community to assist where conventional programs for the needy fell short. David earned significant professional designations in the financial planning, retirement planning, insurance, and investment industries including the Gold Standard of the financial planning industry, the CFP designation (Certified Financial Planner), along with the ChFC, CLU, and CRPC titles. Additionally, he introduced The College for Financial Planning's Financial Literacy Program to students at Kennebunk High School, teaching many of those classes. The program grew to become part of the standard curriculum based on national standards.
He was a devout catholic and had many hobbies which included traveling, hiking, and gardening.
A mass of Christian burial will take place Monday, December 23, 2019 at 10 am at Our Lady of Sorrow in Sharon, Massachusetts. Interment will be private.
