Alwine (Mallasch) Smethers, 89, of Anderson died December 15, 2019 at St. Vincent Anderson after an extended illness.
She was born April 18, 1930 in Poland the daughter of Gottlieb and Lydia (Freschke) Mallasch. She was a seamstress and tailor at Goherings for 5 years.
She attended East Side Church of God.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Ruehr of Anderson and Connie (Don) Handlovics of Cleveland, OH; brother, Paul (Ruth Anne) Mallasch; four grandchildren, Tim Ruehr of Anderson; Jessica Doughty of Minerva, OH; Sara Handlovics of Cleveland, OH and Danny Handlovics of Cleveland, OH; several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two spouses, Frank Ruehr and Clifford Smethers; daughter, Lori Ruehr and eleven siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 12:noon on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at East Side Church of God with Dr. Kerry Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at the church.
Memorial Contributions may be given to East Side Church of God Friendship Class or the charity of the donor's choice.
