Thomas J. “Tom” Stackpole 83, of Nantucket, died peacefully, Saturday December 14, 2019 at Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston, following an illness. He was the husband of the late Nancy C. (Howes) Stackpole, who died in 1998.
Born May 1, 1936 in Lowell, a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Sheehan) Stackpole, he was a resident of Nantucket, since 1958.
He was raised and educated in Lowell and worked as a plumber for LL Rickard, of Nantucket. He also worked as a policeman, a volunteer firefighter, care-taker and worked in the maintenance department for Nantucket schools.
A proud American he served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in January 1960.
Tom enjoyed woodworking, fishing, scalloping, clamming, quahogging, bowling and following his beloved New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and Nantucket Whalers. He was a member of the Angler’s Club and the #4’s.
He is survived his children, Kimberley O’Hara and her husband John of South Darthmouth and Nantucket, Michael Stackpole and his wife Jacqueline of Franklin, his beloved companion of 17 years Patricia Giles, with whom he did extensive traveling, his grandchildren, Lindsey O’Hara of Charlestown and Nantucket, Meghan O’Hara of South Dartmouth and Nantucket, Christopher Stackpole of Cumberland, RI, Brooke Stackpole of Franklin, a sister in law Susan Widger of Nantucket. Also surviving are his nieces & nephews.
Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember Tom at a Celebration of Life, on Saturday January 18th 2020 at the Fairgrounds Restaurant 27 Fairgrounds Rd. Nantucket, MA from 12-3PM.
