Juvelino D. Tavares, 81, of New Bedford passed on December 12, 2019 at Hathaway Manor.
He was the husband of Maria N. Monteiro.
Born and raised in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Jose A. Gomes and Maria Goncalves, he lived in Canton, Ohio for many years before moving to New Bedford in 2003.
Mr. Tavares was formerly employed by Canton Malleable as an iron cast line operator until his retirement.
He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, music and dancing.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Nelson Tavares of New Bedford and Nicholas Tavares of Pawtucket, RI; a daughter, Deanna McNutt and her husband Randy of Canton, OH; a step-daughter, Palmira Lobo and her husband Anthony of Dartmouth; a step-son, Joao Pina and his fiancée Stephanie of New Bedford; three sisters, Belmira DePina Gomes of Ohio, Maria F. Lobo of New Bedford, Maria C. Washington of Pawtucket, RI, and Amelia G. Alves of Dartmouth; two brothers, Manuel Gomes and Reinaldo P. Gomes, both of Brava, Cape Verde; a granddaughter, Jaeda Tavares of Canton, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Maria G. Baptista.
His Funeral will be held on Monday December 16th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Service at the New Bedford Portuguese Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 413 Rockdale Ave., New Bedford at 10 AM. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday December 15th from 2-6 PM.
