Mattie Lou McGee Spicer Snowden, 92, of Fitzgerald Georgia, passed peacefully Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at the Harris House in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Thursday, December 12, 2019, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with Elder Edward McIntyre and Brother John Hancock officiating. Interment will be 11 AM, Friday, December 13, 2019, at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, in Irwin County. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Snowden was born October 20, 1927, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late William Wiley & Lillie Mae Young McGee. She worked at home as a homemaker, mother and wife until her children were grown. She also graciously worked for Sunny Dale Training Center. Mrs. Snowden was a faithful member of Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church for many years. To have known this classy lady was an honor to all that had the opportunity. Her sweet spirit will always be present in the lives of her loving family.
She is survived by one daughter, Brenda (Lamar) Wright of Ocilla; one step-son, Carl (Pat) Snowden, Jr. of Fitzgerald; daughter-in-law, Marie Upchurch Spicer of Forest Park; and one neighbor whom she claimed as her own, Craig Seagroves; one grandson, Scotty (Julie) Wright; three granddaughters: Carol Lynne (Jason) Johnson, Dee Dee (Mike) Knight, and Charleen (Steve) Branham; nine great-grandchildren: Savannah (Alex) Mar, Misty Knight, IvyLynn Spicer, Daisy Branham, Matilyn Wright, Harlan Johnson, Branson Wright, Charlie Branham, Cory Mitchell Knight; a brother-in-law, Joe (Betty) Snowden of Atlanta; two sisters-in-law: Zelda Spicer and Betty (Edward) McIntyre, all of Irwin County; and a special niece, Lavon Sapp of Irwin County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Marion Spicer; her husbands: Marion Spicer, Jr. and Carl Snowden, Sr.; four sisters: Pauline Reeves, Willie Mae Stringer, Ruth Gandy and Lavinia McGee, and three brothers: Phillip McGee, G. W. McGee, and Walter McGee.
