Eugene P. "Gene" Keegan, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 94 years of age.
Gene was born in Boston on May 7, 1925, a son of the late Michael Keegan and Dora T. (O'Leary) Keegan. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. He furthered his education at Boston College and received his Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences in 1953. Gene enlisted into the United States Navy on May 12, 1943 and served his country with pride and courage during World War II. He was honorably discharged on February 8, 1946 with the rank of Radioman, Second Class. Gene worked as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for many years. He enjoyed reading and was very devoted to his catholic faith and St. Mary's Church in Charlestown. He was also an avid swimmer while growing up in Charlestown and a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association.
Gene is the beloved son of the late Michael Keegan and Dora T. (O'Leary) Keegan. He is the devoted brother of Nancy Russell of Charlestown and the late Mary Connor and John M. Keegan. He is the loving uncle to Maureen and Mark Hennessey, Susan and Glen Ellis, Bill and Bonnie Russell, Elaine and Frank Hennessey, Patti Pike, Nancy Connor and his grandnieces and grandnephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Gene's visiting hours on Saturday morning, December 14, 2019 from 8:30 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury.
