DARTMOUTH — Frank A. Allen, III, 90, died on Sunday, December 8, 2019 of respiratory complications at St. Luke’s Hospital. Born in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Maj. Gen. Frank A. Allen, Jr., and Ellen Gordon Allen.
He graduated from the Hill School in Pottstown, PA and the U.S.M.A. at West Point in 1952.
He served in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman’s Badge. During The Eisenhower Administration he served as a White House Aide. Upon leaving the service, he worked in advertising and marketing in New York, Japan, Switzerland, and Lebanon. He was married to Helen Mills Watson and retired with her to South Dartmouth in 1997. He was a member of the Dartmouth Veterans’ Advisory Board and also of the Chevy Chase Club of Chevy Chase, MD.
He leaves his wife, a stepson, David M. Watson, Jr., a stepdaughter, Ann W. Lipham, and three grandchildren.
His memorial Mass will take place at St. Mary’s Church, 783 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth, on Saturday, December 14 at 9:30am. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his name to Dartmouth Veterans Advisory Board, 400 Slocum Road, Dartmouth, MA 02747.
