Obituary

CHICOPEE – Raymond “Ray” Beaulieu, 74, a longtime resident of Chicopee, was Called Home to Heaven by the Blessed Virgin Mary on her Feast Day Sunday, December 8, 2019. He passed into Eternal Life at Vero Health and Rehab of South Hadley surrounded by his wonderful caregivers and all the memories he loved and cherished. Ray was seriously injured and struck by a snow plow on November 16, 2018 as he attempted to cross Grattan Street in Aldenville going to his favorite eatery, The Lucky Strike Restaurant. He was born in Holyoke on September 7, 1945, a beloved son of the late Ludger and Irene E. (Dionne) Beaulieu. He was raised in Holyoke, graduated from the former Precious Blood High School and lived in Holyoke for many years before moving to Chicopee around 1970. Ray served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Ray was employed for over 30 years as a Grocery Warehouse Clerk and later Assistant Manager at the former Sweet Life Cash and Carry on Pine Street in Holyoke. Ray was an avid golfer and bowler and was involved with many leagues during his life. He was an avid walker and especially enjoyed his morning coffee and later dinner at his favorite spot, The Lucky Strike Restaurant in Aldenville. Ray had many devoted friends who visited him after his tragic accident. Among them, were his devoted caregivers and good friends, Richard and Alida “Lee” Murray of Aldenville. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, December 16, 2019 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, December 15, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
