Joyce J. (Whitehead) Miller, 68, of New Bedford died Saturday January 28, 2006 at the Oaks Nursing Home after a long battle with ovarian cancer.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Clayton P. and Sarah "Sadee" (Lafrinere) Whitehead, she lived in New Bedford all her life.
She was a former member of the Hope Evangelical Community Church.
Mrs. Miller was formerly employed by J.C. Penney in Dartmouth as an assistant department manager until her retirement.
Mrs. Miller had been a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital Library and at the Black Goose at the Dartmouth Council on Aging until her illness. She enjoyed reading, cooking, teaching Sunday school, and collecting Teddy Bears.
She is survived by her friend and caregiver, Marie R. Anderson of New Bedford; and other close friends.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in the Hope Evangelical Community Church, 88 Hathaway Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Viewing at the Church on Wednesday morning 10-11 AM prior to the service.
