Boston – Lucia (Melo) DaCosta, age 70, of New Bedford, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio DaPonte and the late Antonio DaCosta.
Lucia was born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores to the late Alfred and Maria Melo. She had worked as a stitcher for Cliftex for many years.
She is survived by her son, Antonio M. DaPonte and his wife Amy; daughter, Adriana F. Freitas and her husband Antonio; grandchildren, Meaghan DaPonte, Kristin DaPonte, Austin DaPonte, Chantel Freitas, Nathan Freitas, Aaron DaPonte and Hailee DaPonte; siblings, Luis Ferreira, Antonio Ferreira, Eduardo Ferreira, Carlos Melo and Grace Frias; great-grandchildren, Maddox Arruda, Maeryan DaPonte; daughter-in-law, Ana DaPonte; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Steven J. DaPonte.
Lucia’s visiting hours will be held Thursday morning, December 5th from 10:00 A.M. – 11:30 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will follow with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 12:00 P.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
