On November 29th 2019, Borghild Helen Bevans, beloved wife of Robert C Bevans Sr. (deceased) died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family. She is survived by her sons Keith (Margaret) and Robert (Alison); her four grandchildren, Carolyn (Alex), Amanda, Bronwen, Robert Gareth; and great granddaughter Lena. "Berkie" was born in Brooklyn, New York, October 16, 1920 to Norwegian immigrants Karl and Lara Johnson. She grew up in Baltimore and was a graduate of Eastern High School and the Church Home and Hospital School of Nursing. Upon graduation, in 1942, she enlisted in the US Army and served proudly as a nurse throughout World War II. She deployed with the 78th Station Hospital in North Africa, Italy and France. She achieved the rank of Army First Lieutenant. In 1951 she married the love of her life Robert (Bob) Bevans Sr., They raised two sons in Loch Raven Village and enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage. After raising her children, Berkie continued a career in nursing at the US Public Health Service Hospital where she worked until her retirement. After retiring, she enjoyed a legendary cross-country car journey with her husband to see the USA. The consummate hostess, she was known for epic Christmas parties and spirited Bridge gatherings. She was always proud to be a member of the Baltimore community. She was one-of-a-kind yet a mosaic of all the values and gifts that "The Greatest Generation" had to offer. A first generation American, proud Norwegian, US patriot, veteran, career nurse, mother, lifelong Oriole fan, and maker of the worlds greatest Maryland crab imperial.
COVID-19 UPDATE: In consideration of current social distancing recommendations and to assure the safety of family and friends, the Memorial for Borghild Bevans will be postponed until the fall. Date to be determined.
