Imogene Sutton Green Holmes, 96, of Tifton passed away Monday, November 25, 2019, at Cypress Pond Assisted Living in Tifton. A private service and burial will be held for Mrs. Holmes at a later date.
Born September 16, 1923 in Tifton, Mrs. Holmes was the daughter of the late George M. Sutton, Sr. and Nonnie Clegg Sutton. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred R. Green; her second husband, George K. Holmes; one daughter, Carol Peddy; and two brothers, George M. Sutton, Jr. and Henry Sutton. She was a homemaker and a member of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Covenant Sunday School Class and Club 55, as well as Circle 10 (United Methodist Women). She was a former Pink Lady, a former Meals on Wheels volunteer and a former volunteer at Annie Belle Clark Elementary School Library. She was also an honorary member of the Georgia Sheriff’s Boys Ranch.
Mrs. Holmes is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Sylvia Green of Tifton, George Robert “Bob” and Beth Green of Statesboro and Henry M. Greene of Valdosta; one sister-in-law, Ann Sutton of Tifton; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the caregivers and staff at Cypress Pond Assisted Living in Tifton for their outstanding care of Mrs. Holmes.
