Richard J. Lynch, 86, of Westport passed away peacefully on Sunday November 17, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Shirley "Sara" (Carey) Lynch.
Born in Sayre, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Cyril and Ruby (Jennings) Lynch, he lived in New Bedford for many years. He had lived in Maine for 20 years before returning to the New Bedford area.
He was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. He also had a special affiliation with the Sacred Heart Fathers.
Mr. Lynch was formerly employed as a supervisor for the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission until his retirement.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Alden Court Nursing Home and Beacon Hospice for the exceptional care given to Richard during his illness.
He is survived by five children, Karen Andersen of Fairhaven, Richard F. Lynch of Florida, Erin Daylor of Lakeville, Katie Lynch-Silva of Westport, and Patrick Lynch of Dorchester, and their mother, Kathi McKenna of New Bedford; three sisters, Veronica Moulthrop, Marlee Quinlan, and Sharon Lynch; six grandchildren, Ian and Dylan McGowen, Paige and Caiden Lynch, and Gwendolyn and Rowan Baptista; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Kathryn Mary Lynch, and brother of the late Thomas Lynch and Ruthann Park.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday Dec. 3rd at 10 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday Dec. 2nd from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
